    Yokogawa CENTUM VP is the Yokogawa's latest integrated production control system, which has a more intuitive human machine interface andmorepowerful field control stations capable of processing data faster and more reliably, optimum plant operation for various industries. 

I. Brief Introduction

Yokogawa CENTUM VP is the Yokogawa's latest  integrated production control system, which has a more intuitive human machine interface and more powerful field control stations capable of processing data faster and more reliably, optimum plant operation for various industries. It has been keeping the operation continuity and the application compatibility for customers to use the CENTUM continuously  for a long term, achieves 99.99999% (seven‐9s) availability. Up to now, more than 20,000 systems have been installed worldwide. 

CENTUM VP consists of four components which are operation and monitoring functions, engineering functions, control functions, and a network communication system. It can be flexibly configured to suit the requirements of plants both large and small in a wide variety of industries. In addition, integration with ProSafe-RS safety instrumented systems, STARDOM network-based control systems, and different generations of CENTUM systems extends its scope of operations. CENTUM VP also manages plant assets with Plant Resource Manager.

One-touch operation for related information,  Alarm dialog, trend graph, Graphics, and faceplates can be called up from each other based on the related tag without engineering; Performance and function for achieving real-time plant operation, 1 second graphic call up; 1 second screen refresh; Data gather mechanism for real time trend without the affection by the network delay; Frame display; Window History function; Real-time Alarm Management View, Large Capacity, Max. Higher compatibility with the former CENTUM systems: Similar operation is also available; Accessible to the FCSs of the former CENTUM systems with different control networks; use latest Microsoft Windows OS platform: Windows 7, VISTA, and 2008 server.Three types of hardware can be chosen; Desktop, Solid Style Console, and Open Style Console. Ther are various operation styles; Mouse/Operation Keyboard/Touch panel; Single, Dual and Quad-monitor are available.

1.2. HMI: Yokogawa offers an intuitive and easy-to-understand HMI environment for plant operation and monitoring, which is the result of vast experience with CENTUM systems in operation. Flexibility in displaying operation windows and monitors helps in adapting to various aspects of operation needs. CENTUM VP provides easy-to understand graphics based on the ergonomics and knowledge engineering. For instance, data displays are provided with high visibility that enables intuitive awareness of the situation. The use of colors considers the best contrast and environments of the central control room and the configuration of the displays integrates the knowhow of experienced operators. With all these functions, CENTUM VP enables operators to make quick and accurate decisions during operations and contributes to improve operation efficiency.

1.3. Controller:  The CENTUM VP controller features outstanding processing performance and a large application storage capacity, yet inherits the same quality and stability that are the hallmark of the CENTUM series. Processor modules, power supplies, I/O modules, and communication buses all support redundant configuration. The latest release of the controller AFV30D/AFV40D has been optimized to take full advantage of advancements in field digital technology that will help plants operate with increased efficiency and stability. A high speed remote I/O unit enables connecting controllers over remote site up to 50 kilometers.

1.4. I/O: FIO (Field network I/O) is a series of low-cost I/O modules which have been developed to improve packaging density. The large available range of modules enables you to configure your system to match the requirements for process signals, and to provide for different levels of isolation. The FIO System is connected to the Field Control Unit (FCU) via an ESB, optical ESB, or ERbus. The I/O Modules include Analog I/O Modules, Digital I/O Modules and Communication Modules. There are several types of Analog I/O Modules, including the isolated channel type, isolated type and non-isolated type. The I/O Power Supply Modules, Bus Interface Modules, and I/O Modules (FIO) are installed in a I/O Node Unit.

1.5 Engineering: The engineering station (ENG) uses the same hardware and software as the HIS, but also has engineering software such as a graphics builder and PID and sequence control programs for configuring the CENTUM VP system based on the specific requirements of the plant environment. It creates database necessary for implementing operation and monitoring functions and control functions.
